What is the difference between endoscopy and colonoscopy?

Endoscopy is commonly used to examine the upper digestive tract, including the esophagus, stomach and beginning of the small intestine. Colonoscopy examines the colon and rectum.

When may an ERCP be required?

ERCP may be advised for selected conditions affecting the bile or pancreatic ducts, including duct stones, narrowing or obstruction.

What is FibroScan used for?

FibroScan is a non-invasive test used to assess liver stiffness and can also help evaluate fatty changes in the liver.

What is Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS)?

EUS combines endoscopy with ultrasound to obtain detailed images of the digestive tract and nearby structures such as the pancreas and bile ducts.

Can large bile duct stones be treated endoscopically?

Depending on the stone and the patient’s condition, advanced techniques including cholangioscopy/SpyGlass and laser lithotripsy may be considered for selected difficult bile duct stones.

What is POEM?

Peroral Endoscopic Myotomy (POEM) is a minimally invasive endoscopic procedure used to treat selected swallowing disorders such as achalasia.

Are there endoscopic options for weight management?

For appropriately selected patients, procedures such as Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG) and intragastric balloon placement may be considered as part of a medically supervised weight-management plan.
